Okay. So shopping for jewellery is easy (especially if you’re on a splurge!). Wearing them is even easier. But taking care of them, that’s where the difficulty lies (if you don’t know how).
When taken care of properly, jewellery can last for a long time. It can even be handed down to generations. So here are simple ways on how you can take proper care of your jewellery.
1. Put jewellery on AFTER applying makeup. This is one rule that we often break because we don’t realise that chemicals from our make-up and even perfume can damage our jewellery. This is especially true to pearl jewellery. Pearls react easily to chemicals so you have to put them on after applying your make-up.
2. Don’t wear jewellery in swimming pools and spas. Chlorinated water can react with the metals on your jewellery, causing colour changes and even damage.
3. Clean your jewellery with polishing cloths. Professional cloths made for cleaning jewellery help bring the luster of your gold or silver pieces compared to ordinary cloths or tissue.
4. Store your jewellery properly. For necklaces, hang them separately to avoid tangles that may cause damage. If possible, separate them and do not mix them together like a candy jar (we are so guilty of this!)
Jewellery can last a lifetime, depending on how you take care of it. Follow these easy steps and your jewellery will surely shine for a long time.
